Bengeo Cricket Club Won 4 wickets
Match report
Bengeo and Abridge played out a thriller in this div 3 table topping topping clash. It took a 62 run partnership in the final 6 overs from Potter and C.Walker to guide bengeo home . Earlier in the day Bengeo won the toss and bowled first on a flat but damp wicket. Graves bowled 7 overs, got the breakthrough. But at the other end Ruskin and Potter struggled for line and length and saw there bowling punished. Abridge rushed to 88/1 from 14 overs. The brakes were applied by Bateman and M.Walker whose 20 overs between them went for 3/56 as Abridge slipped back to 146/5 off 34. Some lusty hitting and poor bowling guided Abridge up to 217/6 off 45 overs. Graves and M.walker with 2 wickets apiece.
After tea The best opening partnership in the league came out in the blazing sunshine. Mike Sharpe 13 and Lee Robinson 40 took the score to 48/0 off 13 when Sharpe was caught on the drive. Dellow 32 finally found some form dealing in boundaries only, his dismissal for 32 left Bengeo 81/2 off 20. Graves 12 was caught behind and then Robinson, the big wicket was lbw for 40. Bengeo were 120/4 off 30 and the game was in the balance. Mark Bateman, pushed up to 5 after his fine knock last week made 19 and Bengeo legend Ruskin 5. Both caught at long on trying to force the game. Out came Potter and C.walker , both batsmen light on runs this year, mainly due to power of the top four had nearly 7 overs to hit 62 runs. The next 45 minutes was a lesson in running between the sticks and brute force batting. Potter took 16 off one over with two big sixes then C.Walker took 11 off the next with a 6 of his own before a dropped catch was pushed over the boundary for 4. Some good running, turning ones into twos and Bengeo needed 14 off 2. Potter stuck Horgan into Hertford before Walker added another boundary and a run for 3 ment Bengeo needed 1 from the last ball. potter slashed it through the slips for 4 and finished 49* and C.Walker 22*. A massive win for Bengeo after last weeks loss. A nice 40 point cushion at the top with the business end of the season approaching.
