Braughing v Bengeo Cricket Club Bengeo CC 1st XI on Sat 08 May 2010 at 1:30
Bengeo Cricket Club Lost 6 wickets

Match report A very weak Bengeo team made the short journey to Braughing on saturday hoping to snatch 26 points before the predicted rain set in. As luck would have it, the rain stayed away.
Short of players, some late night calls on friday ment come saturday we had eleven men, thanks to maddog and stuart for helping out. Potter standing in for Adam as skipper lost the toss and Bengeo were asked to bat.
Dellow would open up with Micky Walker, the tactic being - see off the openers so the middle order could dictate the game. Dellow crashed the first ball through the covers for 4 but miscued a straight one in the 3rd over and was caught in the covers. In came Ruskin and he batted some much needed overs. After he got in he 'stupidly' gave his wicket away and left Bengeo 60 odd for 2. Micky Walker was doing a fine job at the other end until he missed a straight one and was bowled for 20 odd. The loss of these two quick wickets bought Craig Walker and Bateman together. Bateman playing some really nice shots until he was again bowled. Potter walked out at 80 odd for 4 needing to reproduce last weeks knock to get Bengeo upto 200 plus. This was a tough ask, espicially when Craig missed a straight one and with it the game was braughing's for the taking. But Steve Thomas stuck around for a good 10 overs whilst Potter found the boundary regulary to guide Bengeo to 150 with 5 overs left. Needing 200+ Potter went for one big shot to many and ws bowled for 48. Thomas was next to go before the tail collapsed and Bengeo racked up a useful but below par 155-9.
After a nice tea Bengeo opened the bowling with Ruskin and Walker senior, the Braughing Batsman took these two on and started finding boundaries with ease. Guy and Bateman were called to the scene and bowled 10 overs each beautifully, espiecially Guy who only went for 13 off his 10. Bateman took 3 wickets his end and Braughing were 80 odd for 4 and game on. But with no back up bowling on the day, Braughing raced over the line with 9 overs left.

A bad bad day at the office for Bengeo c.c , who should be winning games like this if we have any hopes or dreams of promotion. A major shortage of players due to work, football and social commitments has left the club really short of players and if it carries on then a club chasing for trophies will soon be finding themselves in a dog fight to stay up. It is not good enough when you are searching for 2 or 3 players on a friday night ans if it carries on for much longer then we'll find ourselves playing in Div 5 next year.
Div 4 is a tough league to get out of and records show that when you go into Div 3 you normally go up again. Next saturday we are playing so called chamions elect Chadwell Heath, who won Div 5 at a canter last year. Many peoples bet to go straight up. So we'll need to pull out a performance of champions with hopefully a fully fit and full squad of players to chose from. 2 defeats from 3 games is not an option!!!
